Christmas Decoration Haul

Sunday, 1 November 2015

Since it's November and the John Lewis advert has been released I can talk about Christmas to my hearts content and no one can say anything. I have been particularly excited for Christmas this year (I have been Christmas shopping since the start of October) as it's my first in my own little home, I thought I'd share what I've bought so far..

I wouldn't say i've got a single colour scheme in mind, just metallic vs natural I suppose; I like the texture clash of full on glitter with woody natural pieces.

So the culprits for my spends have been Liberty, John Lewis and Pod. I went to Liberty towards the start of October and they had just opened their Christmas Shop and I just couldn't resist.. Whilst I managed to hold myself back from spending my entire paycheck, I did come away with four decorations: the Glass Peacock, the Peacock Feather Bauble, the Cream and Gold Striped Bauble and my favourite, the Iridescent and Gold Glitter Bauble. I loved the delicate touches of glitter on these baubles particularly on the last one, that will have pride of place on my tree.

A couple of weeks later I then visited my parents, back in North Somerset. We took a trip to Clifton in Bristol where I couldn't resist a trip into my favourite nick nack shop, Pod. It's one of those shops that's great for finding homewares and gifts. There I carried on my accidental birdy theme with the Gold Partridge, a Cream and Gold Turtle Dove, and also two White Glitter Apples. I wanted to get in the nativity scene somewhere, I thought this Wood Cut-out Nativity Scene decoration would make a lovely edition without having to buy a whole nativity scene I don't have room for..

Most recently I went to John Lewis. I work in Soho which is dangerously close to Oxford Street, so now and then I take a detour on my way home. As a result I ended up in their Christmas Store there and.. you know the rest. I spent far too long in there umming and ahhing over different decorations, but again I tried to show some restraint. I went with a pack of 28 Champagne and Gold Glass Baubles, I thought these would make the perfect pretty little filler for the tree. For this same reason, I got a pack of 12 White Snowdrops, and whilst i'm usually not the biggest fan of tinsel, i've made an exception this year in favour of a thin Copper Coloured Tinsel. I bought two individual decorations, one Glass Swan with Glittered Wings which I think is stunning -so elegant, and a Message in a Bottle decoration just because i'd never seen anything like it before. Lastly, and another favourite, I bought what I can only describe as Hanging Pot-Pourri, dried fruits and spices tied together to hang from your tree, or wherever for that matter. I currently have them hanging down from the ends of the curtain poles and they've kept the flat smelling lovely!

I couldn't be happier with everything I bought and I think it's been a great start for my first tree. I plan to hand make some of my own decorations as well, so be sure to check back for those in a few weeks!

Are you excited about Christmas, or do you save your excitement to nearer the time? What's your favourite part about the festive season?
